Bodies In The Nile

Written and illustrated by Shazmeen Khalid

There are bodies in the River Nile,

This Eid the Sudanese children did not smile

Because,

Mothers raped,

Fathers bound to brick,

Blacked out from the world,

Can’t even post a pic;

to share these acts of Evil,

to escape a living hell.

But

No wifi,

So we don’t know about it.

Remember, silence fuels aggression.

But

No videos,

Is there truth behind it?

Remember, neutrality is oppression.

سلميه

They  said,

Peaceful revolution,

Now subjected torture for seeking resolution.

This is Sudan,

This is the present.

There are bodies in the River Nile,

May Allah Grant the Martyrs heaven,

There are bodies in the River Nile.

Call it nothing other than a massacre,

We paint it #Blue for Mohamed Mattar

because Sudan’s voice,

Like his,

It matters.

سودان

Who rose against oppressive regimes.

There are bodies in the River Nile.

سودان

whose women led protests in their masses.

There are bodies in the River Nile.

سودان

Whose people have been brutalised for demanding better leaders.

There are bodies in the River Nile.

There are bodies in the River Nile.
