In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’ve put together some small independent woman and non-binary owned businesses for you to shop from and follow! Each person is creating beautiful items that would be perfect for yourself, a friend or family member. We believe in shopping small and sustainable where possible.
Big Jugs Ceramics
Incredible hand-built ceramics by Abi Haywood can be bought through her Instagram stories. She creates a variety of products such as mugs, candelabras, soap dishes, hair clips and much more in a range of designs and colours. You have to be quick because they get snapped up almost immediately!
Emily Nash Illustrations
If you’re looking for custom prints, Emily can recreate any image you’d like or you can shop from her range of prints which are usually nude women. She recently released her second zine “You Ok Bab? Part 2” which is filled with funny drunken tales all told by young women. Each tale comes with an illustration that you can cut out for your walls and a cocktail recipe to match!
Mama Zuri Candles
Stunning hand-made soy wax candles by Mama Zuri can be bought via their Etsy or Instagram if you’d like a custom-made one. You can pick your scent, wick type, glitter and crystals if you’re after some magic in your space. I can confirm how gorgeous these smell!
Sumuyya is a Liverpool-based artist making beautiful, boldly coloured prints. You can also find tote bags with “stand up, speak out” written on them.
If you’re looking to avoid fast fashion then look no further. These stunning garments are made to order with custom measurements available. You can find anything from clothes to jewellery to scrunchies.
Bee creates empowering, intersectional feminist illustrations in their style of rosy cheeks and bright colours. They’ve also recently started selling t-shirts about “queer power”!
Ditsy and Daisy
A fairly new Manchester-based business that has been rapidly increasing in customers. If you love buying flowers for yourself or for others – this is the perfect shop for you. These are personalised hand-picked flowers and each sale is completely unique.
Incredibly detailed prints by Nyanza D, usually of women in their rooms, adding that personal feel of what they keep in their spaces. If you’re into astrology, she’s got some great prints for the signs and her shop also includes 2021 calendars if you’re a late starter on keeping organised this year!
Jasmine Ataullah Jewellery
Jasmine is Brighton-based and creates handcrafted jewels in solid gold. You can find pieces for your nose, necklaces, rings and earrings.
All images are owned by the business owners.
